This event, in combination with what seems to have been a genetic propensity to depression, damaged him for the rest of his life. Although he married a lovely young wife, his psychotic tendencies kept on bobbing up (and possibly exacerbated his various illnesses). My feeling is that he was basically flawed for the rest of his life after the Terra Nova.
